Wondering on what has happened to a few of the Canadian Men’s rugby players who seemed to have dropped from sight. Where have Conor McCann, Scott Franklin and Chauncey O’Toole gone? They are never mentioned as injured or unavailable anymore….are they still in the National Team plans? Why is Taylor Paris never mentioned anymore even though he seems to be doing well in France? Why is Mike Scholz only playing with the Maple Leafs 7’s instead of the big boys 15’s? He was one of the better players in the ARC series.

Hi Steve – thanks for writing.

Some great questions; I’ll actually write a post in response to your question over at Try and Tackle – The Province’s rugby blog. Send me an email: pjohnston AT theprovince.com and I’ll send you a note when it’s posted.

Thanks Patrick. I will keep an eye on Try and Tackle for the response. I was just there and noticed that you recently wrote that Ryan Hamilton is injured. This answers one of my questions, but raises another: why does the team not include him on the Injury List with the others?

You provide the best coverage of anyone in Canada on a player-by-player basis. I always enjoy your post game player ratings. I find that you are spot-on. Wish the team would give out more information on who is coming up, who is fading out and who is injured as most professional teams do. You are the only one who seems to dig a bit deeper from the info-sparse team releases and do some educated speculation.

Another question: why is Doug Wooldridge – who is experienced and just started against the Maoris – not going to Europe and is being replaced by a raw Sears-Duru? Injured or out-of-favour? I see that White and Braid were both dropped as well. Both seem to be fading at the 15’s level. Probably end up with the 7’s in Dubai.

        What is your email address?

        So many questions. 🙂 Thanks!

        Steve

Sorry – meant Scott Hamilton not Scott Franklin.
